Lifestyle
Quality of life is much determined by what we do daily, and weekly. My interest is in identifying where reasonable daily and weekly improvements can be made and providing the specific plans to execute them. This broadly takes the form of moving more, eating less, and managing stress. My focus won’t be on pounds or miles, rather habits and patterns.
Fitness is a major priority in lifestyle optimization, not necessarily weight (weight tends to follow nicely when fitness is the focus). Surprisingly to most people, research consistently shows longevity to be more associated with aerobic fitness rather than weight. In other words, fitness should be your first health priority over weight if you want to extend your lifespan!
I find that when previous non-exercisers fix activity into their lifestyle it's no longer a burden, rather an easily accepted part of the daily routine. Exercise seems to be commonly associated with drudgery; perhaps we have our childhood gym teachers to thank as we were punished by running laps when late for class. Fuel can show most people how to perceive activity as a positive and playful part of life.
I have prescribed exercise to people with extremely diverse abilities, available resources, and goals. Your program can be as basic as walking a few days per week or quite detailed with pre-determined aerobic heart-rate goals, free weight routines, and targeted stretching programs. To become fitter you do not need to become a gym member, buy expensive equipment, or be in pain when exercising. You do need strong intent. Fuel can guide your intent into structured guidelines that yield a fitter you. You will need to obtain approval from your health care provider before beginning an exercise program.
